H2: Putting the 'How to' into personal effectiveness training and development

H2: Putting the 'how to' into personal and organisational effectivenessAt H2, we are committed to providing practical advice, training and development services that show you 'how to' put the theory of personal effectiveness into practice.

There are thousands of books and websites available on a range of effectiveness subjects. You've probably read quite a few if you're interested in personal development! However, there's only so much reading can do...

At H2, we believe that there are a number of steps to developing personal effectiveness skills and confidence:

  1. Develop self-awareness - Most people are so busy at work that they don't stop to think about their own strengths and weaknesses unless they are made to. Unless you have an accurate awareness of your development needs, you will be unlikely to move forwards.
  2. Take responsibility - Don't sit back and wait for opportunities to be delivered to you. Take responsibility for your own learning and development, and do something positive about it.
  3. Observe others - Make time to watch those who you admire in action, and make notes on the things they do well that you'd like to be able to emulate. Equally, instead of getting irritated by people who get it wrong, think about how you'd do it differently!
  4. Attend training - We would say that wouldn't we! Although some people learn by reading, most people derive huge benefit from the interaction and practical exercises that a face-to-face course gives.
  5. Practice - Training should not be seen as a quick fix - new skills need practicing. The more you do something the more confident you become, and the more the skill becomes part of your natural repertoire, rather than simply an intellectual exercise.
  6. Learn from your experience - Don't waste any opportunity to learn and develop from your experiences. Work out how you could do things better or differently next time. Remember, as clever Mr Einstein said: "Insanity is doing something over and over and expecting a different result!" You may want to enlist the help of a coach to help you with the process of reflecting and learning from your experiences...
